Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie? Good book. Really depressing but also great. (I'm only about half-way through so ay opinion may change but I doubt it)

The story starts with a British Muslim being interrogated by airport security and missing her flight. It's about her family's experiences with conflicting loyalties, and the way their lives intersect with the son of a prominent politician who was raised Muslim but now stands for 'security'. (I don't really want to say much more because I personally prefer starting books without many preconceptions, but it's good on competing identities and how they shape us)

It's a really gripping read that is (obviously) timely and exemplifies what good books should be - an exercise in empathy.

this post brought to you by my realisation that I don't actually have a social media platform where I can talk about the things I read

Right, I'm going to start crossposting my fic because if I don't start at some point I'm never going to remember to.

It's here on Ao3 or below the cut and is a Lilah/Tara (BtVS, AtS) 12.5k fic.

Summary:

Tara has gotten used to being dead.

Which is why she’s surprised when a strange lawyer drags her out of limbo and along on a mission to reverse a magic spell.

It’s all confusing and Tara has no clue what to do. But she is quickly getting the sense that there’s more to this woman than meets the eye.
