Jan. 4th, 2019 06:34 pmHome Fire by Kamila Shamsie? Good book. Really depressing but also great. (I'm only about half-way through so ay opinion may change but I doubt it)
The story starts with a British Muslim being interrogated by airport security and missing her flight. It's about her family's experiences with conflicting loyalties, and the way their lives intersect with the son of a prominent politician who was raised Muslim but now stands for 'security'. (I don't really want to say much more because I personally prefer starting books without many preconceptions, but it's good on competing identities and how they shape us)
It's a really gripping read that is (obviously) timely and exemplifies what good books should be - an exercise in empathy.
